About Troop 636

Our troop is one of many local BSA units that draw members generally from the cities of Pembroke Pines, Cooper City, Davie, Southwest Ranches, and Hollywood. We currently have about thirty boys active in the troop and new members are always welcome.

Meetings

We meet at the New Horizon United Methodist Church in southwest Broward County. The New Horizon United Methodist Church is located just west on South Flamingo Road and about one half a mile north of Stirling Road. Meetings are normally held on Monday nights between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Visitors are always welcome to attend, but please call beforehand to make sure that a meeting is scheduled for the night you would like to attend.

The Program

Our troop emphasizes outdoor activities and goes on approximately eight or more weekend campouts each year. The weekly meetings are centered on skill acquisition and preparation for the fishing, hiking, and camping trips. Our campsites are usually within a couple hours' drive from our home base, however, occasionally we venture farther away. Our camping schedule is located online in our calendar.

Summer camp is the highlight of our annual schedule and involves a fun-filled, activity-packed week at one of the BSA's execellent facilities. Past summer campsites include:

Requirements To Join The BSA

Boys must be eleven years old, finished with the fifth grade, or have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light award before they can become a Boy Scout. We will be happy to supply the necessary sign-up form.

Money Matters

Troop activities are financed through various fund raising functions and annual dues. The total expense for a new member is approximately $75.00, which includes troop dues, BSA annual registration, insurance and camping fees.
